“Fabulous” Lake District Calendar Supporting Push Back Against Biggest Development Ever in the UK

Support for a calendar highlighting the beauty of the Lake District in order to push back against using the Lake District coast for the UK’s nuclear dump plans has been brilliant. 

Lakes Against Nuclear Dump, a Radiation Free Lakeland campaign set up a Facebook page earlier this year for people to share their photographs of the beautiful and diverse wildlife and landscapes for which the Lake District is world renowned.

All proceeds from the calendar sales will go to supporting the “push back against the UK’s biggest industrial development ever”

The photographs show the beauty of the Lake District coast including highlighting the “Areas of Focus” of Millom and Gosforth. Very long term deep mineworks and nuclear sprawl including expansion of the controversial armed nuclear police force would lead to an entirely experimental subsea cavern in which it is proposed to abandon high level and very hot nuclear wastes including 22 tonnes of plutonium from Japan.

We are surely not so in hock to the nuclear industry here in our beautiful Lake District to submit our home along with that of future generations to being used as an unprecedented nuclear waste experiment, do we agree to become guinea pigs in return for £2Million a year to the Millom and Gosforth “Areas of Focus? This diabolic plan would impact the whole region and beyond.

Coastal areas of Millom and Gosforth are under threat of an unprecedented nuclear experiment. There are plans for a massive high level nuclear waste, sub-sea dump, also known as a “Geological Disposal Facility.”

The government’s proposal is for a 50 km2 square, mine works, as deep as Scafell is high at 1000 metres. Old and proposed new nuclear wastes could be buried and abandoned under the Lake District coast in a gargantuan mine operational for the next 200 years. This would impact the whole of the Lake District and beyond.
